Sirolo, between the medieval village and the nature of the Conero Park
Sirolo is a town that combines remarkable scenery with a well-preserved historic center. It lies within the Conero Regional Park, in a position where the blue of the Adriatic Sea meets the green of the promontory. Overlooking the coast is the ancient medieval village, which offers sweeping views of the shoreline.
Sirolo’s historic center is a maze of alleys that unfold around the remains of an ancient castle. Strolling through its traffic-free streets, you can appreciate the town’s historic architecture and tranquil atmosphere. The main gathering point is the “piazzetta,” a true panoramic terrace with a splendid view over the entire Conero Riviera—ideal for stopping to admire the landscape, especially at sunset.
The beaches are one of Sirolo’s strong suits and regularly receive accolades such as the Blue Flag for water quality. A short distance from the center are several bays and coves, marked by the Conero’s white cliffs descending toward a crystal-clear sea. Among the best known are the Due Sorelle beach (reachable only by sea), the more convenient Urbani beach, and the nearby San Michele and Sassi Neri.
Sirolo also offers several cultural highlights, including the Cortesi Theater and the distinctive Teatro Le Cave, an open-air amphitheater carved from an old quarry of Conero pink stone. Also worth visiting are the Church of San Nicolò di Bari and the ancient Abbey of San Pietro al Conero, a hermitage with a thousand-year history located on the mountaintop.
